Every receipt lands here with its check-back date. When the date comes, mark what happened. It lives in this browser only. Export it to keep it.

Nothing you log here is sent anywhere.

    What this is

The Log is a private chaos magic results journal that lives in your browser. Every receipt from the Sigil Foundry, Shoal and the Servitor Bench lands here with a check-back date, and you mark each working Held, Partly, Nothing or Can't tell when the date comes.

    Why keep a results log

The honest test of a working is whether the thing happened more often than it would have anyway. That takes a written date and a look back with nothing riding on it. A month is a fair wait for most small things.

Log all three outcomes. Most of the time nothing will have happened. Some of the time it happened and would have regardless. Now and then it lands and you can't account for it. Write the misses down first. Memory won't, and yours is no exception. Run a dozen workings and you have data on which kinds of job work for you.

One summary line counts what's open, held, partly and nothing. Each entry shows the tool it came from, the date filed and the date to check. No intents. The receipts never carried them.

The Log lives in this browser and goes nowhere. Which also means it dies with this browser: clear site data or switch devices and it's gone. Export it as a file to keep a copy. Import the file to restore it, or to move it to another device.

Ray Sherwin called his 1978 book The Book of Results. Peter Carroll's Liber Null came out the same year. Take the hint. The first working to log is in the sigil generator.

    Results journal questions

What is a results journal in chaos magic?

A written record of each working: what you did, the date to check, and what actually happened. It's the only instrument the practice has for telling a result from a hope.

How long should I wait before checking a working?

A month is a fair wait for most small things. The Foundry, Shoal and the Bench each set the check-back date for you, so you don't have to carry it around in your head.

What do Held, Partly, Nothing and Can't tell mean?

Held: the thing happened. Partly: some of it did. Nothing: nothing moved. Can't tell: you cannot say either way, which is a fair answer. Log all of them, because a log with only the hits in it tells you nothing.

    Where is my Log stored?

In this browser, and nowhere else. Nothing you log is sent anywhere, so there's no copy on a server to lose or to leak.

How do I keep my Log if I switch browsers or devices?

Use Export as a file to save it, then Import a file in the other browser. Clearing site data erases the Log, so keep an exported copy somewhere you back up.

Should I log workings that did nothing?

Yes. The misses are the part memory drops first, and without them you can't tell which kinds of job work for you. A blank is still a result.
