Adaptability is key.

You can probably tell that today's newsletter is (gasp!) late. I loathe not being on time and consistent, but sometimes things happen. I was tired and fell asleep last night, for example.

I could beat myself up over it, but I got up early and started writing instead. I adapted. Moving forward is sometimes the best thing one can do. In fact, I wouldn't even have this opening for this issue otherwise.

I also changed the name of the newsletter, but I think it's for the better.

So, remember, failure is not weakness, in life or magick. Giving up on yourself is, though.

Here's what we're going to talk about this week!

Well, it's that time of year again...

...doing rituals around the firepit and preparing for the Solstice, of course!

You probably thought I was going to talk about Christmas, right? I'm more of a Nightmare Before Christmas guy, and I don't do trees. In fact, here's the "Christmas Tree" at my house...

Yup... look at that absolute fire hazard. I'm so proud.

I'm not the typical celebrator of Christmas. Mostly because it is a culturally appropriated mess that sought to overwrite pagan holidays. Everyone knows this, however, so I won't tread through that familiar territory.

Instead, I want to talk about the upcoming Solstice on December 21st. As a magician, this is one of the most important days I can think of for doing certain types of magick.

Yule, if you're unaware, is a celebration of Norse origins. It was a time of giving thanks to Odin for basically letting everyone live another year. Thanks Odin!

In Rome, they celebrated Saturnalia, which honors Saturn, the god of sowing and seed. During this time, the Romans would basically have opposite day for a week, eat a lot, and have lots of orgies at the vomitorium.

I choose to use this time of year to give thanks for all I have received and to cleanse myself of anything bad that lingers. I typically do a ritual when the sun hangs in the sky motionless, like my ancestors did for thousands of years before "civilized society" encroached on them and stole their cultures.

Daily Magicks: Fighting back against magickal attacks!

Since this project has gone public, we've faced quite a few people that simply don't like that we're talking about ethics in magick and calling people out for unacceptable behavior.

I consulted with one of my occult friends on this and asked what they thought the best response was. I have my own techniques, of course, but this person is more knowledgeable in this area, so why not try to learn something?

The advice given was to not fight against what was coming in, but to use a redirection of said energy. Lean into it.

Simple advice, yes? Blew my mind. So intuitively simple, yet absolute genius. I'm all over here going...

So, I gave it a shot... and it worked.

I took all the incoming psychic pressures I've been feeling, and instead of fighting it, I redirected it. If I am to be the target of powerful energies, then I, too, can use those energies. Instead of fighting them, we can recognize them for the tool that they are.

And far be it from me not to spice things up a bit with some pop magick, I recited the Litany Against Fear, stopped fighting the aggressive energies, and became one with the storm.

Not to control it, but to use it as the gift the aggressors are giving. Thanks frens!

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

The Wyrd Tale of Mad John
Old man John cut a bedraggled figure scurrying with his days acquisitions through a fine drizzle, through dilapidated alleys, ignoring the taunts of the ill-educated youths that clung to the streets like so many shades of lichen.
Multiverse Theory & Chaos Mindset
To begin, imagine a super massive three-dimensional sphere.

The Last Word: Doubt is healthy, and belief is divine.

Any chaos magician worth their salt needs a healthy self-confidence, a willingness to be open to new belief systems, and a very strong doubt about anything that doesn't produce a result, regardless of whether that's an internal or external change.

Skepticism is key, for example, in discerning the true magus from the clever scam artists. Imagine getting in with a dodgy guru and next thing you know, someone is handing you a cup of kool-aid. All because you knew.

In that skepticism is the balance between becoming consumed by dogma, and knowing when your own personality is being overwritten. And that's the magick of dogmatic, cultish thinking. It's memetic in nature and can easily circumvent your actual desire.

Knowing when you're being fooled isn't always easy, but it does become much easier when you pay more attention. It's often when we fail to trust our intuitive mind, that tingle right between your eyes or the sinking in your chest, that we can fall under these spells.
